How to Clean your jewellery

Have you noticed that lately your jewellery has lost its sparkle? Fear not! We have compiled a guide that will help you to get your favourite jewellery looking brand new again, mentioning a few products from Connoisseurs that we stock.

It is completely normal for silver to tarnish, gold to not look as shiny as it did when new and dirt to get in settings making your gemstones look a little grubby.

What is tarnish?!

Tarnish is a reaction that can happen when your silver jewellery is exposed to air and humidity, through a chemical reaction called ‘oxidisation’. This reaction causes a darker layer to form over the surface of the silver. Effects can be exacerbated by contact with the oil in our skin, hairspray, creams, lotions and even using certain cleaning products. Luckily, tarnish can be removed, and silver can be restored to its brilliant shine with some cleaning. Carry on reading to find out how!

How do I clean my silver jewellery?

We recommend Connoisseurs Silver jewellery cleaner. It is a fast and convenient way to remove tarnish and restore shine to your jewellery.

Sterling silver cleaner can only be used for sterling silver jewellery. Do not use on silver with stones or antiqued/oxidised silver.

How to use:

Use Silver Jewellery Cleaner only on .925 sterling silver.

1. Carefully cut the seal from the container. The solution has a strong odour but that is the nature

2. Place only one piece of jewellery in the dip tray. Lower dip tray into cleaning solution for up to 10 seconds. It is not necessary to soak for any extended period of time.

3. Remove dip tray from container and rinse thoroughly in room temperature water.

4. Dry jewellery with a lint free cloth.

5. If you have multiple pieces of silver it is best to wait a few minutes before submerging the next piece.

6. Use Connoisseurs silver polishing cloth or jewellery wipes to give your jewellery added shine. The silver polishing cloth and wipes will apply an anti-tarnish barrier to silver jewellery.
